A 19th century Norwich square shawl
Woven in silk and wool with floral swags and sprigs on a cream ground, within a wide border of cartouches containing urns, flowers and leaves. The design and format is similar to those of shawls woven by the firm of Towler and Campin, of Elm Hill, Norwich, in the 1840’s. See, for instance, an example in the collection of the V & A
