An 18th century needlework picture
English, circa 1700-1710.
Finely worked in silk and metal thread with a vase of flowers set on a hillock, with a butterfly landing on one of the flowers, and trees, including an oak tree with large acorns, and flowers growing at the base of the vase, in various stitches with the flora and fauna largely in petit point, on a daiper patterned white silk ground. Mounted on braced wooden panels, and in an early 18th century English parcel gilt walnut frame, the inscription ‘Pole Screen’ to the backboard.
The needlework 29.1cm (11½”) high and 24.7cm (9¾”) wide.
Framed size 33.8cm (13¼”) high and 29.3cm (11½”) wide.
