An 18th century flat quilted linen coverlet
Circa 1720-1740
With a ducal coronet and the cypher ‘CVH’ to the centre and to each corner, and a design of interlaced bands, decorated with flowers and leaves, creating endless knots in the form of rows of hearts. Embroidered in chain stitch in green, yellow, red, olive and purple wool on a ground of fine linen, with the jewels of the coronets’ bands worked in pale rose silk in stem stitch. A smaller version of the initials ‘CH’ embroidered to the edge of the linen at one corner.
