An Italian silk embroidered border
Circa 1680-1720.
In coloured silk and gilt metal couched threads, with flowers and stylised acanthus leaves on a cream satin ground.
The extant section here, itself in excellent condition, would originally have formed the border of a hanging or cover.
Similar embroidery may be seen on a chasuble in the collection of the V & A (accession number: T.295-1972)
