A 17th century tapestry cushion cover

Northern Netherlands, circa 1630-1650

Woven in silk and wool with the depiction of an episode from the story of David and Bathsheba, as narrated in 2 Samuel, chapter 11, verse 2…

And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

The central scene within a round border and a garland of ribbon tied flowers, leaves, and fruits on a blue-black ground. In excellent condition.

The tapestry 50.5cm (19⅞”) high and 54.4cm (21⅜”) wide.

In a gilt frame 56.7cm (22⅜”) high and 61.1cm (24”) wide.
